But it Doesn’t Have to be Just One

they say everyone belongs to a landscape

but

does it have to be just one?

what if before dawn I am the desert? saturated and soft.

at sunrise I swell and sway with a melody only lake michigan knows, as birdsong sparkles across my cresting waves.

late morning I am a river, dancing and tumbling through valleys while energy builds within me.

in the afternoon I am snow-covered peaks, beckoning and strong.

in the evening I am a high alpine ridge, wild with wind and emotion in every direction.

at sunset I glow once again like the red rock out west - quiet and warm with memories of the day draped across my canyon walls.

and after dark I am the stars. this needs no explanation.

I bring the wild flowers of mountainsides and the clay of riverbeds with me, to experience each other in myself.

they say everyone belongs to a landscape.

but it doesn’t have to be just one.
